چکیده

With the increasing need to utilize carbon dioxide, fixed-bed reactors for catalytic hydrogenation will become a decisive element modern chemicals and energy carrier production. In this context, resilience flexibility changing operating conditions major objectives design operation of real industrial-scale reactors. Therefore steady-state multiplicity stability are essential measures, but so far, their quantification is primarily accessible ideal reactor concepts with zero or infinite back-mixing. Based on continuous stirred tank cascade modeling approach, work derives novel criteria stability, multiplicity, uniqueness applicable finite Furthermore, connection other features such as runaway parametric sensitivity demonstrated exemplified CO 2 methanation under realistic conditions. The new indicate that thermo-kinetic multiplicities induced by back-mixing remain relevant even high Bodenstein numbers. consequence, generally accepted (e.g., Mears’ criterion) appear insufficient non-isothermal derived in any exothermic reaction at scale. Ignoring would disregard broad range thus substantial potential flexibility.

Modeling of Non-isothermal Reacting Flow in Fluidized Bed Reactors

Abstract: We investigate a prototype concept of a back-up electricity device where we use liquid formic acid (FA) to produce a mixture of carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen (H2) which is used in a PEM fuel cell, Fig. 1. In the fluidized bed reactor the liquid FA is decomposed to a gaseous mixture of CO2 and H2 in the presence of microscopic floating solid catalytic particles. We describe the sys...

Fixed Bed Reactors for the Cultivation of Mammalian Cells: Design, Performance and Scale-Up

Fixed-bed reactors have gained growing attention for the cultivation of mammalian cells. They allow for a low shear stress cultivation of adherent and non-adherent cells due to the immobilization of cells within macroporous carriers. Their potential has been demonstrated for many cell culture purposes. Some of the recent developments are presented in this review, including improved antibody pro...

A Numerical Model for Trickle Bed Reactors

Trickle bed reactors are governed by equations of flow in porous media such as Darcy’s law and the conservation of mass. Our numerical method for solving these equations is based on a total-velocity splitting, sequential formulation which leads to an implicit pressure equation and a semi-implicit mass conservation equation. We use high-resolution finite-difference methods to discretize these eq...

Chemisorption of oxygen onto activated carbon can enhance the stability of biological perchlorate reduction in fixed bed biofilm reactors.

Fixed bed biofilm reactors with granular activated carbon (GAC) or glass beads as support media were used to evaluate the influence of short-term (12h) and long-term (23 days) increases of influent dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations on biological perchlorate removal. The goal was to evaluate the extent by which chemisorption of oxygen to GAC can enhance the stability of biological perchlorate...
